Position Title:

Senior Brewer

Job Description:

  1. Oversees the scheduling of beer production
  2. Ensure adequate staffing levels and scheduling for the brewery and packaging operations including labour.
  3. Based on production plan ensure adequate raw materials are available and ensure that inventoried raw materials are secure and properly stored
  4. Ensure finished goods inventory is properly held and ensure that product quality is maintained
  5. Develop and maintain a capital budget and maintenance plan for all brewery and packaging equipment
  6. Ensure all inventory warehoused externally (ie Direct Tap or Container World) are properly maintained, secured and accounted for
  7. With the input of the Master Brewer, develop performance measures that support the operational objectives of the brewing, packaging and warehousing teams
  8. In conjunction with the master brewer, QC tech and brewery staff ensure proper quality control and assurance systems are developed, implemented and followed 
  1. In conjunction with Master Brewer, review and approval of all overtime reported by brewery and packaging personnel
  2. Person responsible for documentation for all innovation and product/process development used in the operations.
  3. Oversee general maintenance of equipment and manage any third party operational contracts, this may include external maintenance companies, quality assurance companies and regulatory agencies 
  4. Schedule raw material, packaging and input suppliers all deliveries to the brewery or external warehouses ensuring the optimum balance between just in time inventory and capital asset utilization;
  5. Oversee the procurement of all raw ingredients and packaging materials as needed by the brewing and packaging department and ensure an adequate par levels are maintained for same.
  6. With the Master Brewer and packaging leads, implement operational best practices and implement lean methods to ensure losses are minimized by critically viewing operations metrics on an ongoing basis.
  7. Ensure best practices are met with respect to workplace safety 
  8. Be the main liaison for brewery partner brewers and packaging personnel.
  9. Evaluate staff and casual labour on an ongoing basis to ensure Factory maintains quality staff (and reports any issues to HR).
Operational Information
  1. Oversee the preparation of daily, weekly, monthly and yearly brew schedule and packaging schedule and retain historical data on same.
  2. Prepare and review product bill of materials. Ensure all shipping and receiving is properly documented and that accurate records are kept with particulars thereof. 
  3. Review raw material, additives and finished goods reports as created by brewery management software and investigate variances and errors
  4. Lead scheduled and regular inventory counts of raw materials, additives and finished goods including inventories in external warehouses.  Investigating variances between physical count and database quantities
  5. Implement a regular scheduled maintenance program for the equipment.  

Job Requirements:

- 5+ years of brewing experience

- Passionate about crafting great beer, while learning and adopting new and modern techniques of brewing

- Quality focused in all aspects of the brewing process and product

- Experience in sour brewing, barrel programs, yeast handling

- A passion for creating new recipes and developing new styles

- An educational background in brewing science or micro biology. Being up to date with the latest brewing practices and styles is a must.
